Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Crimestoppers
The national charity, Crimestoppers, has reached its 20th Anniversary and a special event was held in Leicestershire to celebrate.
Leicestershire and Rutland Crimestoppers organised the evening event which took place on 9th October at the Police Force Headquarters in Enderby. The evening was funded by the Leicestershire Constabulary to thank the local arm of Crimestoppers and recognise its achievements in Leicestershire and Rutland. A wide range of guests were invited from the civic, public, business, faith and charitable communities.
By using the Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111, people have the opportunity to contact the police completely anonymously and provide information which may lead to criminal convictions. A reward may even be given for information leading to a conviction.
Leicestershire and Rutland Crimestoppers operates with support from local public authorities and businesses, voluntary organisations and charitable trusts. There is also close liaison with Crimestoppers nationally. It is one of the most successful local arms of the national charity – recently, the Leicestershire and Rutland operation led the country with its performance rate of one in every five anonymous calls resulting in an arrest.
Chairman of Leicestershire and Rutland Crimestoppers, Russell Kempton, said: I’m delighted that we are able to hold a local event to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this valuable national charity, increase people’s awareness of what it achieves and thank people and organisations for their support at a local level. I’m also very grateful to Leicestershire Constabulary for funding the event, which was a great success.”
