The Leicestershire village of Medbourne celebrated its new footbridge with an official opening ceremony by Dr Kevin Feltham on Monday 6th April.

The new, ‘Nevill Arms’ footbridge costing £62,000, was completed in mid-March by Leicestershire County Council.

The bridge, which crosses the Medbourne Brook has many improved features particularly for wheelchair and pushchair users, including wider access, improved gradients and removal of a step. The approach paths on both sides have also been re-laid. The bridge was subject to conservation guidelines and as a result, constructed in oak with bank seats clad in Ancaster limestone.

Dr Kevin Feltham, Cabinet Support Lead Member for Highways, Transportation and Waste Management said: “The County Council spends in the region of £1.25million on bridge maintenance over the course of a year and we are delighted that the residents of Medbourne have been able to benefit from this.

”There has been a great sense of community and partnership spirit by all involved in bringing the new Nevill Arms bridge to fruition, including Medbourne Parish Council and Market Harborough District Council.”

The bridge can be located near the Nevill Arms Pub on Waterfall Way, running between Waterfall Way
and Main Street in Medbourne, nr Market Harborough. (Nearest postcode LE16 8EE).
