Sherilyn Wileman (10) has penned “Redgate Tails – Sultan” a story about a European Eagle-Owl that she met at the Redgate Farm Animal Sanctuary in Markfield. The new book follows another exciting adventure with heroine Nat as she rescues a trapped owl and solves a kidnapping mystery. Sales are going well and have already raised just over £100.

Sherilyn attends Broom Leys County Primary School in Coalville. She loves animals and has two cats, a rabbit, five goldfish and tropical fish. Besides writing stories and poems her hobbies include horse-riding, playing the flute, roller-skating and helping out at Redgate. Her dream is to become a successful author, a vet, or run an animal sanctuary.

Once again, the book has been beautifully illustrated by Barbara Calverley, a self-taught artist who lives in Wigston. Barbara is a busy mum of two and has generously given her time and talents entirely free of charge.

Sherilyn’s parents Andrew & Carolyn Wileman are very proud of their daughter. Her mum said: “We are proud of our
daughter’s efforts, both of her literary achievements and her determination to make a difference to the lives of the animals at the sanctuary.” The family would like to thank everyone who has supported them by buying the books and Broom Leys School and Coalville Library for allowing them to have stands in out-of-school hours.
