Scott Bailye enhanced his reputation as one of the nation’s leading hairdressers when he took part in the European version of The Gathering, an annual international hair show organised by Paul Mitchell, one of the leading names in hairdressing worldwide.

Scott (37), who has his own salon in Earl Shilton and also set up the hair academy for students at William Bradford College, is part of a small, hand-picked team of stylists - The Platform Artists’ Club - who travel the world with the Paul Mitchell team showcasing their work.

“The Gathering has become a key event in the hairdressing world’s calendar. The European event is an exact replica of the American version which this year was held in Las Vegas,” explains Scott.

“It is the first time that the European stage has been held in England so it was a great honour and a fantastic opportunity to be part of the team for such a prestigious event.”

The show, which was held at Birmingham’s Hilton Metropole, was attended by around 1,000 salon owners and hairdressers from 21 different countries.

It featured demonstrations by some of the big names in hairdressing including Paul Mitchell’s global artistic director Robert Cromeans and Paul Mitchell’ son, Angus.

Scott himself demonstrated cutting and styling techniques and also managed one of the six “break-out” seminar rooms where people could get some hands-on experience.

“The live demonstrations were spectacular and showed just how much creativity there is in the Paul Mitchell team. I am sure the hair pieces, creative styling and superb use of colouring proved to be of great inspiration to the audience,” says Scott.

The performance at The Gathering capped off a successful month for Scott since he styled the hair for the model who appeared on the cover of the November issue of the national Hair magazine.

Scott Bailye began his hairdressing career with two weeks’ work experience in 1987. Having trained in some of the leading salons – including a spell working at Toni and Guy’s in Mayfair, London, he decided to oaen his own salon in 1996. His business has gone from strength to strength and he has at the same time built up a national and international reputation through his work with Paul Mitchell. He is now in the Top 12 of 35,000 Paul Mitchell stylists in the UK and Europe. He was a finalist in this year’s National Apprentice of the Year Awards and designed and developed the hairdressing academy at William Bradford College, Earl Shilton, which opened in June 2008.
