The occasion was the final of the famous Assam Cup at Langham based Rutland Polo Club. The event proved to be very popular with over 220 tickets selling very quickly. Guests included prominent companies including Berkeley Insurance and Pol Roger Champagne who sponsor the event.

Following a champagne reception and luncheon, an auction raised over £10,000 from bids for exciting items such as a week in a villa in Sri Lanka and Debenture tickets for Twickenham.
Well known T V auctioneer Will Axon ended by taking bids for the table flowers raising another £500.
Area Fundraising Manager Marea Roberts said: “I am so very grateful to Rutland Polo Club for giving the charity the opportunity to organise this wonderful event for a third time since 2005. I also owe a debt of gratitude to the members of my local fundraising committee who worked tirelessly to ensure that every detail was perfect”.
A team of Marie Curie Cancer Care volunteers worked with the fundraising team and proved yet again that we are reliant on these wonderful people who give up their time to help raise the vital funds we need. The money raised at the event will be used to fund Marie Curie Cancer Care nurses who give high quality care totally free of charge to terminally ill people the choice of dying at home supported by their families. The NHS pays just a proportion of the costs leaving the charity to raise around £20.00 for every hour each nurse works. In Leicestershire and Rutland last year 57 nurses gave over 14,000 nursing hours making a real difference to many local people with cancer.’
