Winfield and Jones hair and beauty

Sue Winfield and Jane Jones have been friends since the early eighties and had made a promise many years ago to open up a hairdressing salon together. It all started way back when they were just old enough to consume their first alcoholic drink.

Jane said ‘The Stoneygate area was buzzing and there was always such a vibrant feel to the place. We loved the glamour of the place and had had lots of fun choosing our outfits in some of the local upmarket boutiques in the area and our dream was to one day open our very own salon in one of the best areas in the city.

Soon after their promise to each other, Jane continued doing her apprentice in one end of the city and Sue went on to work for Mario’s hairdressing salon on Allandale Road as an apprentice hairdresser. Her desire to open a salon with her best friend Jane became even greater. She said ‘I was so young and was already starting to fulfil my dreams. I could not get enough of learning new things as I swept the floors and made teas and occasionally, I was allowed to tend to the locks of the many glamorous ladies coming into the salon, under supervision of course! After all, if I wanted to have my name above the door just like Mario, I needed to start somewhere.

Time passed by and both Jane and Sue married and raised their own families and seemed to do their own thing for a few years. Sue opened a salon in Thurmaston and Jane opened her salon in Wigston.

Jane’s daughter Tanya and Sue’s daughter Sacha both took a keen interest in hair and beauty from a young age and to their parents
delight, they too decided to follow in their mums footsteps.

With both daughters on board and almost 30 years later, Sue and Jane finally fulfilled their dream and created Winfield & Jones.

The salon employs seven staff and has a warm, friendly and calming atmosphere feel to it. Sue says “We offer lots of hair and beauty treatments such as Balmain hair extensions and we use well known brands such as Schwarzkopf and Wella products (suppliers of GHD). In addition to the hair treatments, we also offer use of our popular FLABéLOS machine, gorgeous Sienna X tanning, we also have a massage and relaxation area and we have a state of the art nail bar and all this under one roof. Wedding packages for hair and makeup are also available and we will visit the bride in the comfort of her own”.
