Leicester soldiers swap military boots for trainers to raise £700 for charity

Five TA soldiers from Leicester recently traded in their military boots for running shoes to compete in the Leicester half marathon and raise a whopping £1000 for charities Combat Stress and Support Our Soldiers (SOS).

The half marathon, which took place on Sunday 10th October, saw the team from the Royal Yeomanry B Squadron endure a tough 13 mile run to claim the sponsorship kindly donated by friends and family.

Captain Nigel Benner said “The whole team did well and we are very grateful to everyone who has sponsored us. The funds we have raised will make a huge difference to two incredibly worthwhile causes.

“It was important that we could lend our support to Combat Stress as mental health is often overlooked. The charity has done some fantastic work for ex-servicemen and women who have had to come to terms with conditions such as PTSD, depression and anxiety disorders. Our local charity SOS has also helped countless families through difficult times while their loved ones are away on tour and through continued support they can keep sending thousands of morale boosting care parcels to those on the frontline.”  The cheques were presented immediately at Glen Parva TA Centre after the Remembrance Day Parade at Victoria Park Leicester..
