To celebrate the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution’s 150th anniversary the Leicestershire RABI committee hosted a party at Belvoir castle, by kind permission of Their Graces the Duke and Duchess of Rutland.

The event, supported by John Deere UK raised several thousand pounds to support farming families across Leicestershire who have fallen on hard times. RABI was founded in 1860 by a group of Victorian visionary farmers to help support their neighbouring farmers during times of need, hardship or distress. Although times have changed since then, the need is still as great.

The evening was celebrated by over 140 RABI supporters, committee members, young farmers and local business professionals who came along to enjoy a glass of wine and canapés within the beautiful setting of Belvoir Castle. Ken Grimsdell, chairman of Leicestershire RABI commented that ‘we are so thankful to the farming community, especially our sponsors, for all their support in making this event such a success. ‘Without their generosity we would not be able to support our beneficiaries across Leicestershire’.

A fundraising auction also took place at the event with the top lot of a days shooting in Derbyshire reaching £1,400. Guests could also bid on a day for 4 at the House of Lords with Baroness Byford, a limited edition John Deere toy and a luxury food hamper.

Guest speakers included Her Grace the Duchess of Rutland and Baroness Byford as well as a special award being presented to stalwart committee member Simon Packe Drury Lowe.
