Leicestershire Artist, Emidio Chiavetta
Leicestershire Artist Emidio Chiavetta graduated from Loughborough University School of Art and Design in the summer of 2010 with an honours degree in Fine Art. Since graduating, this new, young talent, who would fundamentally describe himself as a ‘figurative painter’, has already gained recognition for his distinct style, outside of the London art scene.
Emidio’s greatest commission to date has been to paint the official portrait of Bishop Malcolm, The Bishop of Nottingham, to celebrate his 10th anniversary, and is on constant display at Nottingham Cathedral. When asked about such a prestigious achievement Emidio explained; “Being commissioned to paint Bishop Malcolm was a real privilege, and it is an honour to be a permanent part of the Cathedral’s Art Collection”.
In addition to his final degree show Emidio has already exhibited work at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, and was selected to exhibit three of his works, in the Open 22 exhibition held at Leicester’s New Walk Museum and Art Gallery.
February marks the first art show of 2011 for Emidio, being selected as one of 44 upcoming international artists to present work at The Open West 2011, held in Cheltenham (9th Feb-5th March).
When asked about his achievements so far Emidio explains; “I have been thrilled with the reception I have had to my paintings…Being commissioned to paint Bishop Malcolm was a real privilege. As a young artist, it is always a worry to be recognised when living outside of London, however since graduating I have found that there is lots of opportunities for Artists within the East Midlands. I would encourage any artist, wanting to show their work, to search for opportunities within the area.”
Although Emidio creates some fascinating paintings for his own practice, he also takes on private commissions, something that he finds ‘enjoyable challenging’ and ‘deeply satisfying’.
