Nuffield Health Leicester Hospital has been celebrating this week after Nuffield Health Hospitals Group was crowned Private Hospital Group of the year 2011 at the prestigious Health Investor awards. The award recognises the excellence of the services at Nuffield Health Leicester Hospital and the 32 others around the UK provide for their customers but also the organisation’s investment and innovative approach to delivering healthcare.
Nuffield Health’s unique approach has evolved over the past five years from a hospital-based charity to a multi-service health and wellbeing provider. This unique proposition was developed following the acquisition of Cannons Health & Fitness in 2008 and consolidated by the purchase of Bladerunner in December 2010, and provides customers, consumers and corporate clients a new way of accessing healthcare while challenging perceptions about the way health and wellbeing should be delivered.
Nuffield Health has invested significantly across its estate and in its services over that past few years, investing over £12 million in its hospital-based facilities in the last year alone and almost £200 million in the last five years. Over the next year the group will continue to invest in growth at its sites across the UK, in particular with the redevelopment of many of the group’s hospitals including Brighton, Guildford and Leicester.
More than £17million was also invested in 2010 to improve the quality of delivery and access to wellbeing and clinical services within Nuffield Health with the addition of five fully integrated centres to the portfolio. This investment provides customers access to specialists in fitness, physiotherapy, health screenings and sports rehabilitation.
It is this growth, investment and vision which impressed the judges and secured the award.
Andrew Davey, Hospital Director of Nuffield Health Leicester Hospital commented: “This award is a fantastic testament to the hard work of everyone within our hospitals and across the whole of Nuffield Health.”
David Mobbs, Chief Executive of Nuffield Health added: “This award cements our position as the leading not for profit healthcare provider in the UK. We recognised early on that we need to challenge the status quo by developing our businesses outside traditional healthcare lines. We have done just that and we are the first organisation to unite services to improve and maintain health. We are delighted to see this is being recognised with this prestigious award.”
