Picking up the Rotary Baton
Picking up the baton for 2012/13 as President of the Rotary Club of the Soar Valley is Graham Martin of Seagrave. Graham who takes over from Alistair Wood of Burton-on-the-Wolds is also a Trustee for Charnwood Citizens Advice Bureau and an Independent Lay Member of the newly formed East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Board, one of the new bodies set up to organise local health services.
At the club’s Changeover Dinner held at Rothley Court Hotel on Monday evening (2nd July) incoming Rotary President Graham Martin said “It is exciting being President of a club as successful as Soar Valley and I look forward to leading the club during a period when we hope to extend the range of our local service activities.
Rotary International is a unique organisation and it is a privilege to lead one of its clubs, as Rotary is renowned across the world for its support to saving lives and improving the living conditions of so many.“
The annual dinner is a joint event with the Inner Wheel Club and Janet Hilliar takes on the role as President of the Inner Wheel Club of the Soar Valley for a second term, succeeding Karla John.
Other Rotary officers are Peter Jones of Barrow (Presidentelect), Alistair Wood of Burton (Secretary) and Roger Williams of Seagrave (Treasurer).
In his review of the past year, outgoing President Alastair expressed“…thanks to residents of the Soar Valley for their continued generosity to Rotary charities. In spite of the economic recession the Santa Sleigh in particular was very successful. As a result, we have been able to support many good causes. Internationally, we have supported the Rotary e-Ranger project, Internationally, we have supported the Rotary e-Ranger project, providing motorbike ambulances for East Africa and the Rotary Foundation. Closer to home, we have supported many local charities including Wishes4Kids, the Warning Zone, Prostaid, LOROS, Rainbows and the Peter le Marchant Trust.
