Music on the Launde
The event is a joint collaboration between funky tents and Launde Abbey and with the success of this first event an announcement that this is the first of what is now going to be an annual event was made on the night.
50% of all profits made were to be donated to the Launde Abbey charity by funky tents, however on the night funky tents committed to 100% of all profits would go to the charity.
'Music on the Launde' an all new bring a picnic and listen to the music family event. With a great mix of Big Band, and Soulful Jazz and a unique sprinkling of dance and choral groups in between, not to forget the aerobatic display and fireworks at the end.
As one of the nearly thousand people who attended the event said “It's a fantastic picnic event to chill out and relax to with performances which appeal to all ages of a family, set in one of the most beautiful spots in Leicestershire. I have never seen such a unique and stunning structure as the main stage, with the Abbey as a perfect back drop, roll on next year”.
The event was the brain child of Brian Jordan - Managing director of funky tents and Nick Quinn - Operations Manager of Launde Abbey. Brian said, “Through providing our stunning stage structures for National music events along with our vast experience of event management it was always going to be only a short hop before we would start delivering our own event, and through our already established business relationship with Launde Abbey, it made absolute sense to utilise this stunning location”.
The event was opened by Emily Walker, the resident musician at Launde, followed by the ‘Singingforfun’ amateur singing group, then came the Leicester Big Band and a real surprise for the crowd, an air display by the Blades aerobatic display team before the Rutland Dance company gave the audience a rare treat. The crescendo was built ready for Oakham based ‘Funk Soul Brother’ to whip up the audience and get them to put down their champagne glasses and strut their stuff. The evening was finished off with a stunning fireworks display which lit up the Abbey.
