Curve searching for talented local performers to star in Sweeney Todd

Curve are looking for local cast to star in their highly anticipated community production of the ever-popular musical thriller, Sweeney Todd, which will be performed at the theatre from 30 July – 11 August 2013.
Following the sensational, sell-out success of previous community productions of Oliver! and West Side Story, Curve’s production team are once again searching for a hugely talented cast of local performers to help bring to life the legend of Sweeney Todd, the demon barber of Fleet Street.
Anyone wishing to apply to be in the production should visit and fill out an application form. Auditions are taking place over the next few weeks so anyone interested in starring in the production is urged to get their applications in soon. Demand for parts in this production is expected to be high. Last year over 400 local hopefuls attended auditions and almost 200 people have already applied to be a part of this year’s community production.
Director, Paul Kerryson said:
“Casting for Curve community productions has always been really exciting and in the past we have been overwhelmed by the huge amount of local talent coming through our doors.
“Sweeney Todd is a high-energy show, which requires strong lead roles and a solid ensemble. This production has already received a huge amount of interest from budding local performers so I am confident we will once again be spoilt for choice and be able to put together an excellent cast who will deliver a fantastic performance.
“This year there are some great parts on offer. We are particularly looking for some really strong singers. Sweeney Todd has some brilliant musical numbers so we want people who will really be able to belt out those tunes!”
Sweeney Todd is Sondheim’s brooding musical thriller boasting a magnificent score and is filled with humour, wit and scary delights. From its first UK performance in London in 1980 to the stunning 2007 screen adaptation by Tim Burton, this tale of obsession and vengeance continues to enrapture audiences.
Set in Victorian London, the musical depicts Sweeney Todd’s murderous quest for justice and retribution, aided and abetted by the outrageous ideas of the pie-shop owner, Mrs Lovett.
Sweeney Todd will be directed by Paul Kerryson. Music & lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim. Book by Hugh Wheeler from an adaptation by Christopher Bond. Originally directed by Harold Prince. Originally produced on Broadway by Richard Barr, Charles Woodward, Robert Fryer, Mary Lea Johnson, Martin Richards in association with Dean & Judy Manos.
This amateur production will be presented by arrangement with Josef Weinberger Ltd on behalf of Music Theatre International of New York and will be performed by members of the local community.
