National Prep Schools Athletics Championships
On Tuesday 2nd July Fairfield Preparatory School Year 6 boys and girls (which included Victoria Johnson in the 100m and 70m hurdles) 4 x 100m relay teams represented the East Area at the National Prep Schools Athletics Championships at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium. With teams from all over the country competing, all of which had qualified at regional championships, the standard of competition was likely to be of the highest level. The day started with Victoria smashing the hurdles record with a new time of 11.8 in her heat. Victoria then went on to win the final in great style and was crowned National U12 - 70m Hurdles champion. A fantastic achievement.
It was not long before Victoria was at the start for her 100m heats. Once again she qualified for the final as heat winner. She knew the final would be tough as the other heat winners ran faster qualifying times. Victoria finished in 4th place a position we are all very proud of considering the level of competition.
The girls 4 x 100m relay team were very impressive winning their heat. Unfortunately the boys found the competition a little tougher finishing 7th in their heat but qualifying for the finals itself is very creditable.
The girls then demonstrated what an exceptional team of athletes they are by winning the U12 relay final. They ran superbly just missing out on breaking the record by two tenths of a second.
The school is obviously very proud of their achievements as this is the first time Fairfield have had National champions in athletics.
