Ofsted Inspectors Commend University Nursery In Their First Visit

Education starts early at the University of Leicester even infants are ‘keen, motivated and eager to learn’, and that’s official!

The University nursery on the University Road campus was recently awarded a Good grade following the facility’s first Ofsted inspection.

An unannounced inspection of the nursery led the Inspector to comment on how the nursery had created an ‘enabling environment for children to promote their independence and to engage children in purposeful play.’ She also said of how the children at the nursery were ‘motivated, keen and eager to learn.’

In addition the Inspector commented on how strong the management at the nursery is, and that there is a clear motivation to develop the nursery to improve opportunities for children’s learning. She also noted how the children at the nursery are cared for in a nurturing environment, to which they form close bonds with the practitioners at the nursery.

Nursery Manager Carol Crosbie said: “We are delighted with the outcome of our first inspection, particularly as these inspections are now more stringent than ever. The team have worked very hard to achieve this grade and to ensure that we are able to offer a good quality service to the staff and students at the University.”

The grade that the University received was based on the Inspector’s observations of children and staff; interviews with management, staff and parents; the Inspector examining documents such as policies and improvement plans alongside the recording of children’s learning and development.

Having opened in April 2012, the nursery has built itself up to develop a quality provision, led by Carol Crosbie, the University of Leicester’s senior Nursery Manager. The facility has future plans to have a designated outdoor area which will allow free and safe access directly from the indoor nursery play areas.

Visits are welcome by prior arrangement. Please call Lucy Hammond on 0116 252 5880 for an appointment.
