Leicester-man to run a marathon every remaining month this year to raise funds for charity
The co-director of award-winning charity Soft Touch Arts has set himself a challenge to run eight marathons for eight months straight, in a bid to raise money for the organisation.
Joe Crofton, 38, from Leicester kick-started with the half marathon on May 11 at the Bosworth Half Marathon, and ran the White Peak Marathon in Derbyshire six days later on May 17 and will be following this through with a different marathon every month till the end of 2014. As part of his preparation, Joe has been training three-to-four times a week since December 2013 and has been running a total of 120 miles a month.
Speaking about the challenge, he said: “Running is a great way to keep me healthy and fit. When I don’t run I feel low on energy. I chose eight marathons because there was eight months to go until Christmas and I wanted to keep up with my training.”
The father-of-three is hoping to raise a total of £2,000, which will contribute towards musical equipment for Soft Touch Arts’ new premises. He said: “We have done a lot of work with young people with various disabilities and would like to increase this work, offering young people more possibilities, as well as being able to work with schools offering bespoke music workshops.”
Other marathons he is confirmed to be taking part in include; Cheltenham Circular Challenge on 22nd June. The Newton Wales Marathon on 13th July. Dovedale Dipper on 3rd August and the Leicester Marathon on 26th October. The venue and dates for the remaining few are yet to be confirmed.
Joe would also like to invite other running-enthusiasts to join in with the challenge and take part in one or more of the marathons with him, to raise much needed funds for the charity. Anyone interested can contact him directly via email on Joe@soft-touch.org.uk
