Wistow Maze needs you

This year to mark the centenary of the First World War, Leicestershire’s famous Wistow Maze has been designed in the shape of a Field Cannon, as a timely reminder of the 16 million people across the globe that lost their lives in this war.

“WW1 had such an impact on the lives of everyone – after all it was the bloodiest conflict in Britain’s history, and this year we wanted to create something that would remind visitors of that fact whilst also making it fun and entertaining”, explains Diana Brooks, owner of Wistow Maze.

Opening this year on Saturday 19th July, the Wistow Maze features over three miles of intricate pathways carved through 8 acres of living corn, with high level bridges and towers giving unrivalled 3D panoramic views.

Diana continues: “In the words made famous by Lord Kitchener, WE NEED YOU to come to Wistow Maze and enter the challenge of finding 12 quiz boards hidden amongst the paths of the giant maze. Each quiz board has a multiple choice question on the First World War which will help to unravel the answer to the quiz trail, whilst providing interesting facts and figures about this world-changing conflict.”

An excellent family day out, visitors can not only pit their wits against the maze but can also take part in a variety of mini mazes, games and table top activities in the Activity Funyard, which includes a space hopper track, hoopla and a football shooting game.

Across the road is the Wistow Rural Centre with its cafe, garden centre, art gallery, model village and numerous shops, ensuring there really is something to satisfy all ages.

The Wistow Maze attracts over 15,000 visitors each year and is a winner of Leicestershire’s “Best Visitor Attraction”.

At the end of each season, the maze is harvested for cattle fodder and then redesigned the following Spring using GPS satellite technology.
