Barrie Stephen Celebrates his one year of ambassadorship with RSPCA Woodside
The White Peacock restaurant next door to Barrie Stephen’s King Street salon in Leicester saw hair and animal lovers come together on Monday 27th of April for a charity dinner hosted by Barrie to raise money for Project Woodside and celebrate Barrie’s year of ambassadorship.
The evening included a three course meal, a raffle and an auction, music from a West End performer and the charismatic Jonathan Lampon from BBC Radio Leicester on the microphone entertaining the room. Gary Wheway, Woodside Animal Centre’s Branch and Charity Development Manager also took to the stage to give an eye-opening speech on the amazing rehabilitation work carried out at the branch and the shocking 10% increase in animal cruelty over the past year.
With such an amazing cause central to the evening, donations were generous and a fantastic £2,846 was raised, bringing Barrie and Woodside ever closer to the £10,000 target which Barrie says is just his first milestone. Since being approached by the organisation last year and asked to become an Ambassador, animal lover Barrie who has a dog and four cats has been supporting the centre and raising money together with his team by organising fundraising events such as dinners, summer BBQs and a Halloween Ball.
“I have a passion for many things in life and right up there is my absolute love for animals. I love my dog Poppy and in my world it is unthinkable that animals would bear the brunt of human cruelty and abandonment,” says Barrie, “so it is with great enthusiasm that I support the team at Woodside. I admire them and I am honoured to have spent a year as their ambassador. My goal is to continue spreading the word about the amazing work they do and raising money so they can continue to grow.”
