Hat's the Way to Raise Money for Charity!
Staff at a Hinckley Italian restaurant have put their heads together to help raise money for Brain Injury charity Headway with a wacky event held at their restaurant as part of Brain Injury Week, after being inspired by the incredible recovery story of their colleague.
The whole team donned a wacky array of headgear - from food inspired pizza and chilli hats and pumpkin caps through to bright neon wigs and colourful clown bowlers - and managed to raise over an astonishing £1600 for the worthy cause with donations coming from staff across all Pesto restaurants as well as customers at each site.
Pesto employees were keen to get involved in the event, which was created to raise awareness and generate funds to help brain injury survivors, after one of their colleagues Laura Shannon recently suffered a brain injury.
25 year old Laura, who works as General Manager at the Pesto Widnes restaurant, suffered a brain haemorrhage in Costa Rica but is now making a full recovery. Laura adds:
“To get so much support from my colleagues like this for ‘Hats for Headway’ has been really astounding. My original target was to raise £250 but the Pesto team, along with our customers as well as family and friends, have helped me raise more than six times that - a feat I never thought would be possible!
“Every 90 seconds someone in the UK is admitted to hospital with an Acquired Brain Injury (an injury caused to the brain since birth) which just goes to show how prevalent these injuries can be and how much these funds are needed to help support families, just like mine, who are affected by brain injuries. I can’t thank everyone enough for the support they’ve shown!”
The current total amount raised including gift aid is £1672.21.
