Hollywood and Beyond with Masquerade String Quartet
Friends of Orchestra of the Swan present a fundraising soirée
on behalf of Orchestra of the Swan
Friday 15 January 2016, 7.15pm
Town Hall @ Stratford-upon-Avon
Start the New Year with a glass of bubbly, canapés and Masquerade String Quartet’s Simon Chalk, Liz Hodson, Mark Chivers and Nick Stringfellow.
Masquerade String Quartet is an amalgamation of four of the country’s leading classical musicians; violinists Simon Chalk and Liz Hodson, violist Mark Chivers and the cellist Nick Stringfellow. These four friends have taken the traditional concept of the string quartet in many new directions. The quartet believes that there should be no barrier to great music, irrespective of its genre.
The members of the quartet first came together whilst working for Orchestra of the Swan, based in Stratford-upon-Avon. Their first recital, intended as a one-off fundraising event for the orchestra, proved to be so successful that it seemed only natural to continue to perform together. Six years later the ensemble continues to go from strength to strength.
On this special occasion, they will be performing a selection from the Great American Songbook, Silver Screen and Broadway including: George Gershwin: The Man I Love,Victor Young: When I Fall In Love, Bart Howard: Fly Me To The Moon, Ennio Morricone: Chi Mai (The Life and Times of Lloyd George), John Barry: The James Bond Theme, Barry Gray: Thunderbirds Main Title, Nino Rota: A Time For Us from Romeo and Juliet and Henry Mancini: It Had Better Be Tonight… amongst many other well-known classics.
