Relive the drama, excitement and incredible bravery of Britain’s fighter pilots at The Wistow Maze this summer. Commemorating the seventieth anniversary of The Battle of Britain, Leicestershire’s  famous Wistow Maze is designed in the shape of  a Spitfire plane for the 2010 Maze Squadron.   Hours of entertainment for children and adults alike lie in store in exploring both the maze within the 8 acre crop of living maize and following the military-themed quiz trail.

Nominated Leicestershire’s ‘Best Visitor Attraction’, The Wistow Maze attracts over 15,000 visitors on an annual basis.  “Seventy years on, The Battle of Britain still has huge resonance with young and old,” explains Diana Brooks, owner of The Wistow Maze.  “This year’s Maze Squadron looks set to be one of our most popular themes yet with visitors taking on the challenge of ‘earning their wings’ in the three miles of our Spitfire shaped maze whilst also testing their knowledge in our fun military quiz.”

Situated just south of Leicester, Wistow’s Maze Squadron will feature hidden clues within its intricate pathways cut through the tall maize and sunflower crop. The maze also incorporates high level bridges and viewing towers giving visitors stunning 3D panoramic views of the giant maze and beautiful countryside.

“The Wistow Maze is a great family day out,” continues Diana.  “Having experienced the ‘real thing’ there will also be a variety of mini mazes, games and table top activities in our Activity Funyard.   There is also a hoopla, space hopper track and football shooting game, with light refreshments available.”

The Wistow Maze is open seven days a week from
Saturday 17th July - Sunday 5th Sept  (then weekends only until Sunday 26th Sept).
10am – 6pm (last admission 4.30pm).  Free Parking.

Going Out - Kilworth House Hotel

To find a hotel with a good restaurant is quite easy. To locate a theatre with a good restaurant is, again, quite easily done too. But to discover a hotel with a good restaurant and its own theatre is a scarcity and quite something else. Such is the case at Kilworth House.

Field of Dreams

Seven long years have been spent, working on a golf course which will end up as one of the county’s richest and best-played courses. Nick, his son, Mark, and team have put their hearts and souls into the course. It has changed massively since last year when we visited. I’ve looked at the hard work put into this new golf course and you can see what he was talking about.
