Local dancers perform this weekend in U.Dance

YOUNG dancers from Leicestershire, aged from five years to 19, will showcase their talent this weekend at the Peepul Centre in Leicester in a piece called Mass Movement.
 
The performance is part of U.Dance 2012, a national programme run by Youth Dance England and presented by East Midlands contemporary dance organisation Dance4 in partnership with Deda and artsNK. U.Dance is a celebration of the region's finest young dancers who will showcase their raw talent in a number of performances.
 
U.Dance launches this weekend in Leicester with Mass Movement being performed on Saturday 21 January at 7.30pm at The Peepul Centre by a number of local Leicestershire dance organisations.
 
Those involved are Shepshed Youth Dance, Fly Dance Company, BCDA, Rushey Mead School, Ballet Up, Bloom Youth Dance – Great Glen Area Group, Sir Jonathon North Community College, Rutland Youth Dance Academy, Rutland Youth Dance Company, Nupur Arts, Guthlaxton Dance Company and Studio 79 Performing Arts College.
 
Paul Russ, chief executive of Dance4, said: “Dancers have been selected from schools and community groups as part of Youth Dance England's U.Dance platform, which aims to inspire individuals and offer opportunities for children and young people to perform.
 
“We are delighted to be involved with these local organisations. U.Dance is a celebration of local talent and we have been working with these really creative companies and individuals to showcase what incredible dancers we have locally.”
 
There will be five performances which then lead to a finale U.Dance East Midlands 2012 event – the ultimate regional youth dance platform in Nottingham on 24 March. Local groups selected from U.Dance East Midlands 2012 will perform at the flagship national festival U.Dance in London in July.
 
Paul added: “These annual sell-out showcases offer an insight into the wealth of dance and creativity in the region, and provide participants with an opportunity to showcase their work in a professional environment.”
