Friends of St Wilfrids Summer Concert

Platinum Evening of Music given by the Robert  Smyth Big Band and Jazz Sextet. On  Saturday  September 8th we will be entertained in the church  by the Robert Smyth Big Band and Jazz Sextet known as Rhythm and Pink. Trained and conducted by the Head of Department at the college Helle Petersen.

Robert Smyth’s Music Department has an outstanding reputation for the music education which all the pupils receive. The evening will provide us with a  high standard of musicianship in every way. All the pupils themselves are highly trained performers in their own right.

This year on  Saturday 31st March the Big Band which was formed in October 2011 to stretch the more advanced players in the college, competed in the National Concert Band Festival at The Royal Academy of Music in London. Playing alongside bands from all over the country.
They were awarded a Platinum Award, the top ward.

In March the Jazz Sextet ,Rhythm and Pink took part in the Music for Youth Regional Festival in Northampton. They boast  3 saxophones , piano, bass and drums.

They will be playing a very mixed programme which is yet to be confirmed.

A share of the profits from the concert will go towards the Music Department’s  next Tour to Greece.

St Wilfrid’s  Church concerts are usually a sell out. So early application is recommended for tickets at  £8.00 for Adults,  £4 (concessions for under 18) All tickets are unreserved.
