Everyone is Running for Rutland!

  • In support of people living with long term conditions in Rutland and the surrounding community

It is going to be an active year for ‘For Rutland’!  Best known for the Good and New Sale, and ‘The Grand Bottle Tombola’, some of the charity’s fundraising activities in 2017 are all about fitness.

The 20th anniversary of Rutland’s independence, will be celebrated with the ‘Run for Rutland’ race on 1 April at the Rutland Show Ground, Oakham, at 9 am.  Runners from Rutland’s primary and secondary schools have been invited to participate and help raise funds to support people with long term conditions in the community.  Trophies will be presented at the end of each run and each runner will receive a certificate and medal.  Spectators will be able to enjoy a lovely breakfast from Northfield Farm foods.

A very impressive challenge will be undertaken by George Peach of GO Finances in Oakham, who has offered to run a sponsored 155 miles, with 500 obstacles, across 8 runs, starting with the Valentines run in Stamford and including the Rutland full Marathon.  He will be joined by his wife Julie on the Market Harborough half marathon, Brighton Marathon and Rutland Marathon.

The Fundraising committee ‘For Rutland’ said “ We are so grateful to George and Julie and all the runners from our local primary and secondary schools.  Sponsored Activities such as ‘Run for Rutland’ and George and Julie’s heroic marathons and half marathons will make a generous contribution to much needed funds to support people with long term conditions in Rutland and the surrounding community.

George said  “for someone who works in an office all day this is will be a pretty exhausting year. So any support you can give to me and this fantastic charity would be very much appreciated”.
