George Hill, wine merchants & shippers of Loughborough

100 Years Continuous Family Trading - At the turn of the century a farm labourer’s son from Lincolnshire came to Loughborough and was indentured as a grocer with The County Stores, who were based near The Market Place in the centre of the town.  By 1909 George Hill had started his own business in Sileby and by 1915 he had bought the company where he had learnt his craft and  his entrepreneurial skills were soon in action.

Today at George Hill of Loughborough, the 3rd and 4th generation work alongside our talented manager Lee Costelow, who has been with us for 20 years.  Now primarily Wine Merchants, we have wines and spirits from all over the world.  I pride myself that I have visited well over 90% of our producers so that you can have first-hand detail of what makes each one that little bit different from the rest.  With prices from under £5 to over £200there are few styles and regions we don’t offer from stock. However if you have a special drink that you are struggling to find, come to us first and if it’s not on our shelves we can try to track it down for you.

Food and wine pairing is a speciality of ours.  It is a particular skill of Lee, who would love you to be daring and let him push your boundaries to make your dinner party more memorable.  Bring us your menu and we will work with you to help create the perfect evening.

We also constantly look out for new and exciting spirits like the newly arrived Chase Premium English Vodka or the fantastic Akashi-Tai Umeshuwhich is a plum infused Sakefrom Japan.  Both of these items are available to taste in our shopalongside a wide range of other Malt Whiskies, Spirits, Gins, Vodkas and Liqueurs.  Why not pop in and try before you buy.

Another speciality of ours is our custom made gift baskets and hampers which would rival anything you could buy in a leading London Store.  Gillian & Susan are happy to create a gift to suit you 52 weeks of the year.  They are past masters at giving our gifts that extra special touch, lifting them from ‘very nice’ to fantasticincluding hand tied bows of 3 to 5 colours co-ordinated with the contents that you can either choose yourself or leave up to us.

All this in simple, provincial Loughborough.  Why travel further?  Come in and see for yourself, we are open from 9.00am to 5.30pm for 6 days a week.  We look forward to welcoming you.
