Rutland artists open studios 2011, 81 local artists display their work

An impressive total of 81 artists will be exhibiting right across Rutland and into neighbouring counties as part of Rutland Open Studios in June this year. Rutland is home to an amazing variety of artists, many of whom are at the top of their chosen field, be that painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, mixed media, jewellery-making, furniture and more.

On every weekend in June, the artists will be either opening the doors to their own private studios or sharing public spaces in group shows, and inviting the public to view their work. This will also be a chance to buy, at direct prices, something beautiful and original that will last a lifetime, and perhaps even gain in value over the years.

The Rutland Open Studios event will then culminate in a group show featuring work by most of the participating artists across all media, as part of the Four Winds Festival at Rutland Water on the final weekend, 25-26 June.

This will be the 5th annual Rutland Open Studios, which has now become a highlight in Rutland’s rich cultural calendar. ROS was started in 2007 by husband and wife team, painter Roy Holley and sculptor Mo Gardner from Morcott and its reputation has grown to such a point that artists from neighbouring counties such as Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire and Leicestershire have joined in on the action, drawing crowds from all over the country.

As with previous years, ROS will also be giving Christmas shoppers the opportunity to buy something very special and unique: artists will be exhibiting and holding stalls at the Rutland Open Studios Christmas Fayre which will take place at the Oakham Castle on 26 & 27 November.

To find out where all 81 artists are exhibiting in June, please go to, pick up a full colour brochure which will be widely distributed, or call 01572 747 639.
